The Patuxent River (MD) Chapter is focused on educating and bringing resources to Upper Montgomery County, Maryland residents to enable them to live healthier lifestyles and better manage their finances during challenging times. The Health and Financial Wellness Event began in March 2014, and will be held biennially. The focus on the health component of the program is to provide various health screenings, educating participants on the prevalence of important chronic illnesses, personal risk factors, strategies for prevention including nutrition and exercise, and community resources available to support health issues and healthy living free. The focus of the financial component of the program is to provide education of basic financial management including topics such as developing a spending plan, working with checking and savings accounts, understanding credit scores and reports, getting a loan, tips for managing money, investing, and achieving home ownership and avoiding foreclosure. This event is free of charge to the community.
Partners include: the Montgomery County African American Health Program, and the American Heart Association. Also, the Patuxent River (MD) Chapter holds a health and financial fair providing information and screenings free of charge to the community.
