On Saturday, March 11th the Patuxent River Links held a Day of Service for their mentees, the Gems. The level of engagement was exceptional! PRC's goal to model and share opportunities with our impressionable Gems in giving back to others in service that also showed caring and compassion was reached.
The Arts and HHS facets worked with the elementary Gems on creating 50 friendship bracelets which were included in Thoughtful Treasure Bags for sick children staying at The Children's Inn at NIH. The ITS facet worked with the middle and high school Gems in assembling 50 toiletry kits for impoverished women and children living in Haiti. STY facet collected numerous items (from the Gems, their families and PRC Links) to be donated to a local women’s shelter.
The Patuxent River (MD) Chapter is be proud that the transformational work being done within our G.E.M.S. umbrella program reaches beyond our work with the girls. With the success of this project, we will plan for the Day of Service to be an annual signature project/event in the future.
